About The Source
The Source is a new online newspaper that informs, inspires, connects and entertains through independent quality journalism.
We’re in the midst of a devolution revolution, and the North East is a region on the rise — there has never been a greater sense of collaboration and community, from Tees to Tyne to Tweed, and never a better time to introduce The Source.
The Source is a growing modern platform for public interest journalism, balanced debate, and a launchpad for the next generation of great storytellers — with a focus on regional affairs, informed opinion, and quality stories on the people and places that make the North East such a great place to live.
Eyes & Ears
The Source is also the new home of Eyes & Ears, the one-stop-shop for busy people who want to know what’s going on in the region. Curated by former Journal Editor Brian Aitken, it summarises everything you need to know — and things you didn’t know you needed to know.
Independent, politically neutral — but North East biased
No obtrusive ads, pop-ups or clickbait headlines. Just quality stories told by quality storytellers.
If you want to know what’s going on — go straight to The Source.
About the editor
Brian Aitken was Editor of The Journal, the North East’s regional daily, for 12 years, building it into an award-winning campaigning title. He founded The Source (originally launched as Eyes & Ears) to fill the growing gap left by the decline of traditional regional journalism.
